Closing date: 18 October 2026

About this opportunity:
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is recruiting a PhD researcher to investigate how generative AI is changing learning, expertise, and relationships in the workplace.
The four-year project is part of EMANAIRE (Empowering Human Agency in AI-Augmented Futures of Work), a Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network. The researcher will examine how early-career employees use generative AI, develop expertise, seek support, and navigate responsibility as AI becomes increasingly embedded in organisational life.
The project is primarily qualitative and ethnographic, involving interviews and observations within organisations. Relevant master’s backgrounds include organisation studies, sociology, anthropology, science and technology studies (STS), information systems, and related fields. A six-month secondment is also planned as part of the doctoral project.
Candidates may be of any nationality but must not already hold a doctoral degree. The MSCA mobility rule also applies: applicants must not have lived or carried out their main work or study activity in the Netherlands for more than 12 months during the 36 months immediately preceding recruitment.
